I'm a writer living in the Fox River Valley, about 35 miles west of Chicago, where the ethanol trees bloom and the Targets have bathrooms that are bigger than my old apartments in New York City.
Smith Magazine is running a great series called Next-Door Neighbor, with artists and writers telling their favorite neighbor stories. My story "Dream Train" just went up today, illustrated by an amazing artist Rami Efal:

The dream is to have a site where even people in a remote area of the world or someone without the abilities or connections within the industry to get a chance at sucess.
