My Bio

Hi all, I'm Matt.  But most people call me Matty.  I am a 35 yr old artist from Roselle, IL (30 minutes from Chicago) and have been interested in drawing and art almost my entire life.  For a long, long, long time, I took this gift for granted, and never really worked on it, even after getting my degree from N. Central College in Naperville, IL in 1998.  But after a 2 yr stint as a portrait/caricature artist at the Disney parks in Florida, I did start to work on it a bit more.  Then took a break while working to make better money, untill in Feb 2006, I discovered a lingering eye condition that almost caused me to go blind.  Realizing that I was wasting the one thing I was really good at, I started drawing everyday, looking for tips and techniques, and just grinding out drawing after drawing.  Art truely is a labor of love, and though I found it later than most people do, I'm glad I found it.  And now I get to share my little view of the world with all of you, and do my part to try and add as much beauty to it as I can.

  • Just one big thank you, and a question

I wanted to take the time to thank all of you here at Got Crowd for making me feel extremely welcome.  This is yet another fantastic art site I am proud to be part of, and thank all of you who have commented, faved, or rated my work here.  It's one thing to have friends and family tell you they like something, but it's truely special to have others you don't know say they appreciate your art as well.

I have recieved quite a few comments and questions, and I feel terrible that I haven't replied to many, but honestly I don't know how to respond here.  So if someone could help me and tell me that, I would greatly appreciate that.  But I can't thank everyone here enough for the support and motivation to continue doing what it is we all strive to do.

Thank you kindly, and my best to you and yours...

    Matty

Hey fellow Got Crowder,
If you think that you might struggle to find suitable presents for your nearest and dearest this Christmas, then please consider the range of books that my publishing company has released in recent months.
If you know anyone who likes popular music, then they may be interested in:
The Song For Today by Jimmie Oliver; featuring a different song and news story for each day of the year; or
An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s by Johnny Zero; a mini-encyclopedia on 'seventies rock and pop; or
A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music by Karl Vorderman; crammed full of information on rock and pop in the 1980s
If you know anyone who likes sport, then they may be interested in:
England Football Team, 1946-2006, A Complete Record by John Bull; or
The Ashes, 1945-2005, A Complete Record by Tony Wagtar; a book for cricket fans; or
The Five Nations/Six Nations, 1970-2009, A Complete Record by Ian Bronderson; a book for rugby fans
Alternatively, we offer a couple of offbeat and 'unique' books entitled:
How To Commit Suicide In Ten Easy Steps by KJ Rolling; or
Garry Potter And The Same Old Nonsense by David Backhim
Of course you could just follow the crowd and buy books written by celebrities who are less intelligent than you and whose lifestyle is funded by gullible people who foolishly worship them. What you choose to buy is a matter for you, but there are many good writers out there (including some of our own) who deserve to be taken seriously. It would be good to see genuine writers enjoy the kind of book sales this Christmas that the greedy celebrities are taking for granted. Thank you for your attention and I won't hassle you again. If you have any queries about the content or prices of my books, let me know. They can be sourced via online bookshops, such as Amazon and Blackwells.
                         Warmest wishes
                          Gary W

Dude, I really like your work in black and white. Your detail is right on. I used to work in pencil or charcoal, until I had another artist tell me I should work in paints, due to the detail I would put into my drawings. I think the same should apply to you. Don't get my wrong I like your work, I would like to see what you could do with colors. Good luck with your endeavors, and once again, Great Work.
